- Bodega x Converse PM Weapon Release March 13, 2010 -
Bodega and Converse have once again joined forces - this time to re-imagine the Poorman Weapon as a sophisticated beast yet unseen by the world. Transforming the original silhouette into a super high-top that can be worn rolled down, the focus of this project was to achieve harmony between the chosen materials. An extra high refined waxed canvas upper is paired with a supple deerskin lining to make this Poorman's Weapon seem not quite so poor.
The natural properties of deerskin leather shine with its extremely high strength and resistance to abrasion. Generally used for motorcycle gloves, deerskin's unique fiber structure keeps you cool at high noon and warm as night falls. The charcoal colorway keeps this forward thinking shoe toned down, while a gusseted tongue and waxed laces combined with the leather's inherent water repellent qualities keep it an all weather shoe.
This shoe is being released Saturday March 13, 11AM at Bodega (online at bdgastore.com on March 13, at noon) and will come in a custom ballistic nylon case lined with shearling. An etched flask will be included for those over 21 years of age. This pack retails for $120, is limited to 100 sets and contains all the elements necessary for surviving the long winter and wet spring.

- Pointer -
Informed by art, music, design, skateboarding and history, Pointer flirts with current trends, but at core keeps to a classic, lo-fi aesthetic. In fact, brand head Gareth Skewis, insists that all employees train at John Lobb, the legendary shoe maker that handcrafts custom shoes for the royal family in England and has been making shoes since 1829. Making sure that those that work for him have a deep knowledge of footwear history, ensures that they, as Skewis comments, "understand where the Oxford or Derby shoes came from and how that started. This gives us an understanding of the past to move forward with updated designs at Pointer." Simply put, "in response to a market saturated with increasingly technical trainers and hyped-up limited-edition sneakers," Pointer aims to produce simple, attractive, casual footwear that most (both men and women) can get down with.

Bodega x BaileyWorks x Independent Fabrication launches 2/12
PAPER LABELS is a design project uniting BaileyWorks (Portsmouth NH), Bodega(Boston) and Independent Fabrication(Sommerville MA) – Three local DIY crews hellbent on creating the best in their respective fields. Since 1993, BaileyWorks has been hand crafting the most durable and elegant courier bags to survive the daily abuse of Bike Couriers. Independent Fabrication transforms metal and carbon into rolling pieces of art - bespoke bicycles measured and tuned perfectly to the individual with the meticulous care of artisans.
Paper Labels of vintage and deadstock spraypaint serves as the palette upon which the three concept bikes, four models of courier bags and three graphic t-shirts were created to showcase enduring craftsmanship and tell the story of a time when things were made locally and to last. A time before bikes became fashion and products were built to break.
The color scheme and Iconography of Paper Labels was derived from Bodega's archive of discontinued Vintage Spraypaint which is hunted by collectors and was popularized by 80’s graffiti culture- Krylon Aqua Turquoise #2008, Krylon O.D. Khaki #2301, and Krylon Metallic Blue #1903 serves as the foundation for the bikes color schemes. Selected in part for there cult following and timeless appeal these colors serve as the basis of this design project. Additional bike graphics were referenced from vintage cans to reinforce the project’s timeless essence and cultural significance.
Baileyworks, Bodega and Independent Fabrication will unveil the project Friday, February 12th 7pm at FourthWall Gallery (132 Brookline Ave. Boston MA).

Adidas Originals by Originals - James Bond for David Beckham
The union of icon David Beckham and Undefeated founder James Bond results in an offering of high-quality, comfortable and sophisticated sporty streetwear. While remaining true to the direction of the first collection, this line is inspired by American College sport with a luxury take on the classic look and feel. It presents quality materials in combination with contemporary styles and a subtle branding and sign-off.
The Gazelle Vintage Mid is a newly designed moccasin with an updated look of the original Gazelle. Constructed from super-soft leather and 3-Stripes debossed in suede with a Trefoil logo heel puffed collar reminiscent of recent sneakers by Louis Vuitton.
Futura x Nike Af1 - Syracuse
Nike Sportswear and legendary New York artist Futura team up to bring you a collection inspired by the deep rooted tradition of Syracuse basketball and the Orangemen's Iconic mascot. For this release, Futura uses preforated leather panels at different densities to create gradients on the AF1 LO and AF1 Mid Models. Subtle color and hits on the tongue label and a "Be True" script on the sole tie the design to its collegiate concept.
Hiroshi x Tennis Classic
The Tennis Classic has always been one of Hiroshi Fujiwara’s favorite Nike shoes. In Holiday 2008 he brought in the low-key vintage interpretation; Nike Tennis Classic Pack in suede featured in four different solid colors. Last summer, Hiroshi worked with Japanese brand uniform experiment (developed by Hiroshi and Hirofumi Kiyonaga from SOPHNET) on two versions of Air Zoom Tennis Classic: white leather and blue suede.
For spring 2010, Hiroshi picked white upper with slightly shiny leather, mixed with gold foil accents on the heel and tongue. As we have seen in previous seasons, the shoe continues to play with subtlety and minimalism. The Swoosh design trademark is perforated on the side of the shoe, and the fragment design logo, a Hiroshi trademark used only for Nike project collaborations, quietly placed on the back heel.
Adidas Consortium Rod Laver Consortium by UNDFTD
Another premium project by LA's UNDFTD crew, this treatment of the Rod Laver features a buttery rich deep blue suede upper, a soft caramel Italian leather inner lining, leather accents on the heel tab and trim, and lastlythe Undefeatedlogo with the Trefoil on the tongue rounding out the beautiful collaboration.
Adidas ZX 8000 Consortium
The adidas Consortium Spring 2010 Collection has began to hit this month and it’s first delivery consists of the classic running Adidas ZX 8000 model. The adidas ZX 8000 comes in a cool Black, Grey, and Aqua Green colorway that uses a mix of leather, suede, and ballistic nylon.
Adidas Y-3 By Yohji Yamamoto
The Spring 10 collection of Y-3 continues the fusion of avante garde styling meeting athletic needs through premium materials, sleek design. The splatter pattern design on the Honja High as well as the olive leather uppers on the Herljack Lo are clear standouts in the line.
Adidas Consortium City Series #3
The adidas Originals Consortium City Series rolls out its third batch of releases with a retro city model designed by the leading crew for the location
LIVESTOCK ADIDAS TORONTO
Grey ripstop panelling, down to the toebox, leather and suede 3-Stripes, complemented by a reflective trim, and the replacement of ghilly lacing in favour of grey and blue D-rings for the top three lace holes, makes the Toronto look more intimidating than ever. Blue printed lettering highlighting both model and store alternately, grey-on-grey Dellinger webbing on the midsole, black and blue on the outsole and a pick of rounded hiker-style laces, or flats, plus a padded lining for comfort, indicates that the Livestock crew thought this project through to the tiniest detail, taking this runner well off the beaten track.
VA ADIDAS TOKIO
Not to be mistaken for the simpler 1964 Tokio that harks back to the early days ofAadidas, this was an update to the shoe’s formula that brought it to the cutting-edge. Red, white and black was the original palette, with the addition of yellow on the outsole, ghilly top lacing and tongue branding. Black ripstop makes up the majority of the upper, while premium leather forefoot and heel panels offer extra resilience. A grey padded lining means everyday comfort, and the choice to twin a white midsole with a predominantly white outsole alters the aesthetic of the shoe entirely, allowing a far chunkier feel.
CROOKED TONGUES ADIDAS LONDON
Paying homage to the Soho area where Crooked Tongues is based, and tweaked for wet weather use, a long raincoat theme down to a check lining seems appropriate. The traditional dimpled tongue is mixed with another local tradition, the British pint, while a semi translucent sole captures those perpetual puddles at street level. Gold lettering and branded lacetips captures more of the best of British that this makeup brings.
COLETTE ADIDAS PARIS
Originally incorporating French flag blue, white and red in its early incarnations, for Colette’s redux, a white leather upper and branded tongue are accompanied by three types of dot pattern within the white 3-Stripes – one red, one blue, and one mixing both. The blue heeltab is accompanied by the recognisable wordless Colette logo on the rear, and more conventional gold lettering reveals both collaborator and shoe name. Red and blue top metal eyelets reinforce the colour picks, while the innocuous looking white mid and outsole conceals the final surprise – a transparent section of hexagons, that reveals a matching pattern beneath.

UNDFTD AF1 x Livestrong
Nike and UNDFTD have had a number of successful collabs in the past, with one of the most notable, an Air Force 1 from 2006. This upcoming version shares comparable features. Most noticeable of which, are the exaggerated double-stitched piping and the Shemagh material chosen for most of the uppers. With this being a LIVESTRONG edition, and Lance being a cyclist, the original “onyourfeetkid” moniker has been replaced with the more appropriate “onyourbikekid” across the midsole.
In conjunction with theStages art exhibition at Art Basel Miami, the Nike Sportswear LIVESTRONG x UNDFTD Air Force 1 will arrive at select retailers listed below on December 4th. One Hundred percent of the proceedswill go to the Lance Armstrong Foundation.

Nike SFB
Four years ago, Nike's Innovation Kitchen was given a new mission: Develop a 21st century boot to meet the needs of this century’s elite level athletes in need of elite level performance innovation. The SFB represents Nike’s continued pursuit of delivering the most technically innovative and lightweight product to meet the needs of athletes the world over.
Highly protective while light and flexible, the SFB’s upper is comprised of a polyester woven shell wrapped in synthetic leather overlays which offers no “break-in” time associated with most other boots. A Speed Lacing System made of 550 cord run through metal speed-lacing eyelets keep the foot securely locked down to the base unit while also making the SFB easy to get in or out of. Simply put, this boot was built for comfort, speed, agility - and it was built to last.
- Converse 1HUND(RED) Women's Chuck Taylor BY VENA CAVA-
Sophie Buhai and Lisa Mayock were fated to work together. When just out of high school, a mutual friend introduced them in LA. they soon started their own clothing line, Vena Cava. “It started mainly as a way to have a party and show our friends the clothes we’d made. It developed into a mini collection that was shown during fashion week.” And not long after that it started making fashion headlines and getting worn by the young and stylish—and famous.
For Converse 1HUND(RED) Artists, the Vena Cava girls did a version of their Havisu print, which captures their aesthetic, a combination of deco and Native American. “We want to wear it and we want our friends to wear it of course,” Buhai says. “If we designed a shoe that in even a small way helps with the AIDS situation in Africa, then we’re happy to do so.”

Adidas Consortium City Series Part 2
Norse Projects presents their first Adidas Consortium creation utilizing their subtle aesthetic perfectly. Danish design throughout with a tonal take on the Kopenhagen’s track training shoe upper design, down to the 3-Stripes.
Suede lacestays and tongue contrast a navy leather upper, while the yellow of the iconic Kopehagen colours is present on the heel and top eyelet. Perforated elements accent, while the etched branding alternately displaying the store name and shoe name is low-key. Set on a white sole unit, matching laces with branded tips complete a reworking that evokes the regional style perfectly.
Slam Jam’s entry into the adidas Consortium city series reflects the expertise of the crew's immaculate taste. The Milano model retains the original blue, but is complemented with lime green crinkle patent on the tongue, 3-Stripes and lacestays, and patentleather on the heel that matches the predominantly all nylon upper.
Gold print carries the Slam Jam logo on one foot and the model name on the other. The fabric choices create an shoe that is incredibly light, while the green padded lining ensures comfort from the first wear. The Milan crew’s finishing touch is an off-white sole and matching off-white footbed.
DQM creates a New York blackout with their City Series entry. Taking the white of the original colourway and applying it to the Dellinger webbed midsole, the upper is primarily constructed from rugged, water-resistant fabric, including the 3-Stripes, while the matching black tongue and heeltab are made of leather.
The DQM name and New York are embossed into a stripe on either shoe, continuing the redesign. Gghilly lacing that once took the top three eyelets has been replaced by brass d-rings, while leather lining is a premium touch to this wet-weather friendly makeover.
Released as their tenth anniversary celebrations come to a close, one of Europe’s number one sneaker pimps get their opportunity to play with alow-profile classic that takes the original Stockholm’s Swedish flag colours and offers material updates. The grey overbrushed suede upper is complemented by yellow 3-Stripes and blue 3-Stripes on the lateral side, all in leather, matched by two colours of top metal eyelets. SNS is branded on one heel and the familiar Trefoil on the other, all set on a gum sole.

- Adidas x Bodega Consortium City Series -
For the Adidas Consortium “Your City” Collection, “your neighborhood store” from Boston, Bodega, is enlisted to create a shoe for the collection. To this effect, Adidas’ Boston Super was the model of choice and is done up in simple, basic colorways of black, grey, white and blue, while mixing things up with a concoction of different materials. The upper is a mix of normal and perforated leather accented with suede and a shiny fabric toe box. The tongue pays tribute to Bodega and adidas in a printed blue and white logo. Dropping Saturday and there are others in the “Your City” Collection to look forward to.
- Nike City Tiempo -
Developed specifically for the Nike Sportswear LIVESTRONG Collection, the footwear design team looked at the Nike Tiempo, first launched through the Soccer category, and enhanced the shoe with key elements to work with today’s inner city bike rider. Developed in partnership with eight bike riders from around the globe, the Nike City Tiempo was constructed with a board last, a process referencing ACG’s history. The board last translates into a stiffer construction, making the pushdown of the pedal stroke easier on the rider. Throughout the construction of the shoe, the designers have increased the density of the rubber and the derometer. Inside the shoe, the sockliner has been updated to also be a bit stiffer, giving support to the foot.
The upper of the shoe mirrors the look of the original Tiempo, however has been updated with a tougher leather to last through the wear and tear the cages on the pedals may cause. The City Tiempo pack includes eight colorways inspired by the iconic yellow of LIVESTRONG. Each color represents a different rider and their respective city. The eight riders include; Kyle Demers from New York City, Jupiter Desphy from Los Angeles, Superted from London, Takaharu “Hal” Okada from Tokyo, Yorgo Tloupas representing Paris, Berlin’s Henrik Kuerschner, Massan from San Francisco, and Lance Armstrong representing his hometown of Austin.

-8.24.09 - Adidas Consortium Rod Laver Pack -
By UNDFTD, VA(Tokyo), and DQM
The signature shoe of several time world tennis champion, and still legendary George ‘Rod’ Laver, the adidas Rod Laver has been a mainstay for the brand, and now a central part of the Originals range since its 1970 launch. The key to its success? Utter simplicity. In line with court decorum and regulations of the era, the famous 3-Stripes were shorn for this shoe, and the purity of the Rod Laver set something of a standard for sneaker design – the move to pare down the corporate identity and let the silhouette do the talking is a landmark move too.
Beyond favourite colour combinations like the traditional white and green, the material mix of leather and mesh kept things breathable and lightweight without compromising looks. This bare bones approach gave the shoe an ageless quality. A follow-up, wider, chunkier in the sole and with added midsole and heel branding became another icon and a worldwide Summer standard, notably deified in NYC as the timeless hot weather choice.
Almost forty years after the original design’s introduction, it’s back in a tweaked form, retaining its iconic classicism for an ambitious adidas Originals Consortium project. Nine global Consortium partners, each famed for their innovative approach to retail, were given the Rod Laver to rework with their choice of colours, fabrics and more for release in extremely limited numbers at Bodega
UNDEFEATED
Undefeated redefined sneaker retail on the west coast with their Los Angeles store. Having rolled out further branches with the same levels of quality control, their prolific number of collaborations is no exception. There’s no recurring formula to their output, other than their consistent appeal. Flipping a luxury look with a timely high-end holdall theme, their Rod Laver is made from a quality sand coloured canvas, with leather detailing that includes the tongue and sockliner.
The subtlety is reinforced by the stitched eyelets, bar the top metallic one, choice of coloured laces, and beige ‘UNDFTD’ on the heel tab of the white midsole, finished with a gum outsole. A perfect product of the Undefeated crew’s environment, this creation goes beyond sporty into smart dress territories.
DQM
With New York’s Dave’s Quality Meats representing for the fixies, skaters and sneaker disciples, and their locale being a place that helped elevate the Rod Laver name as a style icon far beyond its performance origins, you’d expect a respectful treatment in their hands, and that’s what you get here. As simple as their recent 3Way collaborative output, a brick red is used throughout the upper in a number of materials – mesh, suede and leather.
A white heel patch, lining and ‘DQM’ heel tab branding matches the midsole, and the sockliners carry a topical “Recession Special” and price slashing design, that correlates perfectly with the design’s democratic simplicity and ‘everyman’ feel, finished with a beige outsole and branded lacetips for another example of the store’s focus on detail beyond the clean, unsullied feel.
Whereas mesh was just one focal point and texture on the original Rod Laver. Tokyo’s V.A. have made it pretty much the sole ingredient of their interpretation. Rendered in their now trademark grey and bright yellow, the eyelets are stitched bar a tonal top metal one, adding to the featherweight feel, resulting in one of the lightest variations of this model to date.
Opting to crank up the level of branding, to make up for the singular fabric choice, V.A. break ranks to embroider their logo on the heel alongside the rubberized heel tab. Finished with a white midsole and yellow outsole, this store continues to keep it consistent in terms of both palette and easy-to-wear styling, while ensuring no one would identify this as anything less than a VA creation.

Yuketen started life in 1995 and was set up by Yuki Matsuda, who moved over to America in order to work with true footwear Artisans. Together they produced the Moccasin hunting boot, inspired by 1930's mountain men, designed to be silent whilst tracking wild animals (bears and stuff). These shoes are made in in the traditional moccasin way, using American hides, which wrap your foot, not just cover it (as so many shoes do these days). The sole unit is made from real crepe, which is of course, 100% natural rubber from Brazil and takes about 4 hours to hand sew to the upper.
Check Yuketen's webiste for product and leather info.
